Colin Pusey from SilVR Adventures is a quiet force in the Australian startup ecosystem.
Every year, Colin generously gives his time to share his journey and challenge the next generation of entrepreneurs. And every year, he leaves a mark—not just for what he builds but also for why he builds it.
Colin completely flipped my thinking on Virtual Reality and its application in aged care.
SilVR Adventures exists to solve some of the most pressing human challenges facing our ageing population:
Loneliness — which has the same health impact as smoking 15 cigarettes a day
Rising risk of cognitive decline
The escalating cost of dementia care
Colin shared his story with our students — how a single article in 2018, projecting more people over the age of 60 than under the age of 5 for the first time in history, led him down a rabbit hole of research. He discovered the enormous unmet needs in aged care and decided to do something about it.
His advice to students was grounded, generous, and honest:
Start with what you have — don’t be paralysed by what you don’t
Learn constantly and build your network intentionally
Fill the gaps in your startup — you can’t do it all
Finding the right channel to reach your audience is everything — and it evolves
Colin also gave students a firsthand look at the SilVR VR technology, taking them on an immersive journey that sparked genuine emotional reactions and deep discussion on whether this is an example of radical innovation in care.
This is what meaningful tech looks like.
